St. Louis Rams select Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame (Jr.)      Ndamukong Suh seems like the likely choice but STL has gone defensive line in recent years with Adam Carriker from Nebraska and Chris Long from Virginia so I dont think they go D-line again because the Rams have a major problem with the talent level at the quarterback position. Marc Bulger and Kyle Boller combined for one win in 2009-10 season.Steven Jackson is suffering from lack of a supporting cast and prospering from it on the stat sheet.This team needs a new face after Rams' ownership decided to drop ticket prices. #2. Detroit Lions select Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska (Sr.) Detroit could go several directions with this pick but with Suh still on the board I think he will be impossible to pass on given they see Adrian Peterson,Matt Forte,and Ryan Grant twice a year.The Lions end up with the highest rated player in this year's draft. #3.Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Joe Haden CB Florida (Jr.) Tampa much like St. Louis and Detroit is rebuilding and will use this pick for anything but QB.Eric Berry,the safety from Tennessee makes sense but Ronde Barber is nearing the end of his career and there isn't much after him. At the price the #3 pick commands Joe Haden being the best cornerback in the draft gets more value because there's a big dropoff in talent.Haden along with Aqib Talib would make a nice young duo of CBs for the future.Afterall,they will see Drew Brees and Matt Ryan twice a year. #4.Washington Redskins select Russell Okung OT Oklahoma State (Sr.) Jason Campbell isn't the problem offensively,the O-line is terrible/Be smart Shanahan get this guy a line or be fired next year because you chose to put a rookie QB behind a poor O-line.Russell Okung is a starter day one and could possibly be a future pro-bowler.He instantly improves the offense. #5.Kansas City Chiefs select Eric Berry S Tennessee (Jr.) Berry has been compared to Ed Reed and that's a hell of a compliment.KC needs playmakers period on both sides on the ball.Offensive line is the largest area of need but the secondary could use this pick.He is surely an upgrade from Jarred Page and could start day one.The AFC West has some young WR talent with Oakland's Louis Murphy and Darius Heyward-Bey and Vincent Jackson in San Diego.Brandon Marshall may be leaving Denver and KC can close the gap a little bit in the first round with the selection of Eric Berry. #6.Seattle Seahawks select Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma (Jr.) Seattle didn't think McCoy would fall to them at this spot and couldn't ask for more.They need an interior defensive lineman to free up the great linebacker group.McCoy is a starter day one for the Seahawks with his pass rush and his ability to stop the run. #7.Cleveland Browns select C.J. Spiller RB Clemson(Sr.) The AFC North is a defensive division with running teams and Cleveland has lost their way.Jerome Harrison burst on the scene late last year and Jamal Lewis was released so Spiller makes sense.The left side of the offensive line is pretty good and the right side needs shoring up but I think Spiller is the playmaker they need on offense to help Brady Quinn. #8.Oakland Raiders select Taylor Mays S USC (Sr.) Al Davis will be sold on Mays after the combine with all his physical traits.He will look great on paper and the Raiders will take him despite being a liability in coverage.Not saying he can't evolve into a better player with the help of Nnamdhi Asomugha and the rest of the DBs there. #9.Buffalo Bills select Anthony Davis OT Rutgers(Jr.) This pick could very well be used to select Oklahoma's Sam Bradford but this Offensive allowed 44 sacks and Trent Edwards to be put out with injury.Bradford could be the QB they need but you need an offensive line first and foremost.Davis is a starter on the first day of training camp.If Marshawn Lynch could stay out of trouble maybe the running game in the bright spot on this offense. #10.(From Chicago)Denver Broncos select Rolando McClain MLB Alabama (Jr.) In the first year of the 3-4 Elvis Dumervil was great and linebacker core could use an interior linebacker to play with D.J. Williams.Last year's pick Robert Ayers could play OLB and then you would have a sick group linebackers to add with Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins. #11.Jacksonville Jaguars select Maurkice Pouncey OC Florida (Jr.) This team is dedicated to running the ball and with Brad Meester and Vince Manuwai on the back end of their careers.Pouncey anchored the offensive line at the center position during his time at Florida and could even play some guard. #12.Miami Dolphins select Dan Williams DT Tennessee (Sr.) The Phins 3-4 defense has been effective but it's aging.Nose Tackle Jason Ferguson will be 35 and coming off injuries and Williams due to his upside can replace Ferguson #13.San Francisco 49ers select Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State (Jr.) The 49ers find themselves in a postion to rescue yet another falling wideout with tremendous talent and they pull the trigger on him.Now you have Frank Gore,Vernon Davis,and Michael Crabtree along with Dez Bryant in one offense.Hope the QB situation gets fixed. #14.(From Denver)Seattle Seahawks select Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma (Jr.) Matt Hasselbeck is just about done in Seattle.Blame it on the injuries but that's why your time as the franchise QB is over.The second time around the Seahawks get the deadly accurate QB of the future. #15.New York Giants select Brandon Spikes MLB Florida (Sr.) The release of Antonio Pierce speaks volumes of what position the G-Men are planning to take here. #16.(From Carolina)San Francisco 49ers select Trent Williams OT Oklahoma (Sr.) Trent Williams should fix the Niners' offensive line woes because he will take Joe Staley's spot at Left Tackle and Staley could play the right side.the offensive would be set for years to come.Alex Smith has no excuse given the talent around him at this point. #17.Tennessee Titans select Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech (Jr.) Tennessee could also go cornerback but one group has to make the another look good.I think the league has put the spotlight on pass rushing and the Titans have none.17 picks into the draft and a defensive end finally comes off the board.Supposedly the best one. #18.Pittsburgh Steelers select Mike Iupati OG Idaho (Sr.) Big Ben scrambled for his life all season long and took many hits.The Steelers are probably satisfied with Max Starks and Willie Colon at the tackle positions but on the interior not so much.With the emergence of Rashad Mendenhall,Iupati is the right choice. #19.Houston Texans select Earl Thomas S Texas (Soph.) 161 7568 Looking back on the season, I think we did pretty well. But talking to the guys, we know we left a lot of opportunities out there. We obviously left some wins on the field, probably more than any other year. We were so close in a lot of games but we didn’t get it done, and that’s what this league is all about – getting it done. We have to look at ourselves pretty hard this off-season, and we all have to figure out what we need to do to get ourselves over the top and win those close games so we can be a team that goes 12-4 or 13-3. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I’ve started in on my regular off-season routine of morning yoga training, staying loose, reading some, playing some X-box, relaxing and catching up on the DVR. I’m just letting my body rest as much as possible. I did that last year and had what I think was my best season yet. My first couple years I went right back to lifting in the off-season and I got burned out a bit. I was tired of going to the stadium by the end of the season. In November, I don’t want to be tired of going to the stadium, I want to be excited about being there. Taking this time for myself, staying in shape my way, working on my golf game, helps get me away from football and will help me in the long run.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> So I’m at a financial symposium that the NFL offers at the Wharton School of Business in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Philadelphia</st1:city></st1:place> and it’s very challenging. My teammate Dave Anderson is here, too. We had to do a lot of pre-course reading, about 200 pages or so, just to get ready, so they’re not coddling us. You need to be prepared when the professors come in to give a lecture. You can tell why Wharton is one of the top business schools in the country, the professors are so dynamic. I took a class on reading financial statements that you would have thought would be the most boring class ever, but the professor found a way to tell a story and help us see through the numbers. All of the classes are very informative.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> This event was a real eye-opener for a lot of guys and a real eye-opener for me. I have no idea yet want I want to do when I’m done playing football, but I’m hoping something will come along that will suit me.  These classes show just how far you have to go to compete in these fields. A professor told me he might be big enough to play football, but he knows he couldn’t just jump on the field and play with us and be successful, just like we can’t just jump into business or real estate and have success by winging it. The eye-opener was just seeing how much there is to learn. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> What else is going on? My wife is running a half-marathon in <st1:place w:st="on">South Florida</st1:place> on Sunday, so I’m heading down there after this. She’s been training for about 10 weeks and it will be the longest race she’s ever run. She’s excited and I’m excited for her. It will be fun standing at the finish line and watching her cross it. Some people just really enjoy running. I don’t know if I could run half a mile before my calves and ankles start hurting. 95 7562 <div class="slide-description"> The 2009 football season was full of surprises, controversy, suspicion, killer upsets, and overtime thrillers. But that is old news that happened in the last decade.   This is a new year and a new decade that will be filled with new trends, new controversy, and new history.   I took the advice I was given, and broke my previous article into pieces, making this list easier to follow and more user-friendly. Be sure to check out the videos!   Beginning from the first of January all the way down to the conclusion of the Super Bowl, we look back on the greatest moments in football!   <div class="slide-description"> </div> <div class="slide-description">No. 10: Broadcasting the TCU Cheerleaders</div> <div class="slide-description"> </div> <div class="slide-description"> </div> <div class="slide-description">On the night of the Fiesta Bowl, a Google phenomenon initiated.</div> <div class="slide-description"> </div> <div class="slide-description"> <div class="slide-description"> I have always been a fan of TCU, but I never noticed how appealing the cheerleaders were.   As pointed out in my final power rankings edition, the best team from Texas was never determined. I feel the exact same way about the cheerleader debacle. Only we can all enjoy this debacle.   After many showings of the Lizards’ squad, we came to the realization that TCU looked better than Boise’s. We later found out after a thrilling slugfest, that Boise was slightly better on the field.     No. 9: Houston Texans Make History   <div class="slide-description"> Before we embarked on the NFL season in 2009, there were five teams left without a Super Bowl visit.   With the conclusion of this season, we have a new champion in the New Orleans Saints, and one less team left on this list of no-goers. The remaining teams are the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and the Houston Texans.   Of the remaining teams, Houston has the best road ahead and will more than likely be the first of these teams to make a visit, with the potential at hand.   A Pro Bowl Quarterback, one of the best Wide Receivers in the League, a solid O-Line, and a running back tandem that has a ton of potential, with the possibility of acquiring Ladanian Tomlinson.   On defense, the Texans have a great corp of linebackers, one being Pro Bowl rookie in Brian Cushing, with a decent secondary, and powerful defensive line.   The Houston Texans finished 8-8 a year ago, and were predicted to be a surprise team this past season. While Houston just missed the playoffs, they made history with their first winning season, and made their departure with a victory over the New England Patriots in comeback fashion. The Texans were not just a run of the mill team, as they finished 13th in the NFL. As a result, Gary Kubiak kept his coaching spot intact and the league is starting to give Houston some deserving respect.   The Houston Texans look to be the first of the four remaining teams to make a Super Bowl visit and they may be the only one left to make a trip to the Super Bowl.   Houston could very well be the New Orleans Saints of 2013, if not beforehand. A bold prediction, but who could have seen Denver starting 6-0, and Cincinnati making the playoffs.     No. 8: UConn Makes Feel-Good Story   <div class="slide-description"> The season was filled with inspiration, excitement, sorrow, and passion for the Connecticut Huskies.   After a 4-2 start, Cornerback Jasper Howard was killed during an on-campus altercation.   For the next three weeks, things got more daunting, as the Huskies came up short against Cincinnati, Rutgers, and West Virginia, by a combined ten points.   But in late November, Connecticut got their swagger back, conquering Notre Dame in double overtime, crushing on the Orange of Syracuse, defeating South Florida in a thriller, and ending with a bowl victory over South Carolina 20-7.     No. 7: Bobby Bowden Leaves with a Victory   <div class="slide-description"> It was a tough season for Bobby Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles.   Tons of controversy and media coverage constantly surrounded the program, and it might have led to the rather sour departure of Bobby Bowden, that is until he left with a win.   During the stretch of the season, Florida State had to deal with the likes of Miami (FL), Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Florida, and Boston College. The Seminoles lost to every one of them, by 42 combined points.   Florida State followed their disappointing loss in Week 1 (to Miami) with a slugfest victory in the 4th quarter against Jacksonville State, where they had to take one to the house on defense in the final seconds.   In between FSU’s sloppy start and the three-game losing streak, the Seminoles met with No. 7 Brigham Young in Provo. No one was quite sure what either team could do, but it was sure to be an interesting game.   Shortly after the game started everyone lost interest. A smashing was unveiled, as Florida State cleaned the clocks of BYU, 54-28.   After the Seminoles’ 3-game losing streak, Florida State won 4 of their next 5 games, overcoming the Tar Heels in a tremendous comeback, surviving Maryland, losing to Clemson by two scores, beating Wake by two scores, and winning a thriller against N.C. State.   In the final week of the season, the Seminoles were faced with their arch rivals from the SEC—the Florida Gators in the Swamp. The game by no surprise turned out to be a landslide, as Florida State took a blow, losing 37-10.   A few weeks later, it was announced that Florida State (who ranked outside the top 40) would face the 16th ranked Mountaineers of West Virginia. What looked to be a blowout on paper, turned out to be a very close and intriguing game. Florida State came out fired up, with their coach on their shoulders.   The Seminoles had a shaky first quarter down 14-3, but they were resilient, and they took it one step at a time. The comeback was a team effort, as no one’s stats jump off the page. The Seminoles prevailed by two scores, 33-21. It was Bobby Bowden’s day, and he wasn’t going to be denied.   The team led Bobby Bowden to his 33rd straight winning season. The win capped off a 5-0 record in Gator Bowl play, and gave Bowden his 22nd bowl victory, the 2nd most in FCS History.   Bobby Bowden finished his career with a 389-129-4 record in his 44 seasons as a head coach. He is a well-respected legend and he will be sorely missed, and the last win will always be remembered.     No. 6: Green Bay vs. Arizona—Greatest Game Ever?   If you were one of the many fans who turned the station off when this game got out of hand, you may have missed the single greatest game in NFL History.    Perhaps it’s a stretch, but it certainly was a thriller, and without a doubt the greatest NFL game from the new decade.    Instead of writing an in-depth recap that would take up as much room as the average lengthy article, I saved both of us some time by providing this video for your viewing pleasure.  <object width="320" height="265"> <param value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eyt8DCwP1rk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&hd=1" name="movie" /> <param value="true" name="allowFullScreen" /> <param value="always" name="allowscriptaccess" /><embed width="320" height="265" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eyt8DCwP1rk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&hd=1"></embed></object>       No. 5: Northwestern vs. Auburn—Cat Fight Ends in Overtime Thriller   This was the best matchup and most thrilling game of the entire bowl season.  The Outback Bowl kicked off the New Year with a bang!    Even when the score seemed completely one-sided and it appeared to be over with, the other team would quickly fight back in bloody cat fight.   Everyone was on the edge of their seats the entire game, heck; I was standing up in my living room.   I predicted this to be a thriller, but I never could have predicted this game would have been unofficially won by Auburn 3 times! <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aBxrjT6ViCU&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="320" height="265" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aBxrjT6ViCU&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>   No. 4: Marcell DARE-US Eats Garrett Gilbert   The ball was on the Texas 37.  Marcell Dareus dared the Longhorns' offensive staff to call a timeout with 15 seconds to go in the half so they could put together a last-second score before the half.   Dareus had already taken McCoy out of the game with an injury (though not on purpose), and on this play Marcell Dareus pictured the football as a turkey...and he wanted some giblet gravy! <object width="320" height="265"> <param value="http://www.youtube.com/v/insLuoYsDXw&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" name="movie" /> <param value="true" name="allowFullScreen" /> <param value="always" name="allowscriptaccess" /><embed width="320" height="265" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/insLuoYsDXw&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1"></embed></object> No. 3: The Brett Favre Extravaganza   You either love him, or love to hate him.  There is no doubting it, Brett Favre is one of the all-time greats, and he came out of retirement for the second time and returned once again to the 2009 season for a few reasons.   Revenge on the Packers.  To prove "he still had it."  And to rally his troops to the Super Bowl.  While he didn't reach the most sought after achievement, Favre did show that he still had it, and he did get revenge on the Packers, twice.    No one is completely sure if Favre will return in 2010, but my gut feeling (like most) suggests Brett will make one last attempt.   This past season, Favre set career bests in completion percentage (68.4), quarterback rating (107.2) and fewest interceptions (7), while throwing for 33 TDs and 4,202 yards.   The Vikings (12-4) earned a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs, and Favre became the first 40-year-old Quarterback to win a playoff game with a four-touchdown performance against the Cowboys.   Who wouldn't like to see Favre playing at 50, like he did in the Super Bowl ad?  If you didn't catch the ad, it was a great one, as Favre poked fun at his own situations.    But chances are you’ve only seen the cut version for the Super Bowl.  Here’s the extended version that will keep even the most prestigious Favre-Hater laughing the whole way through! <object width="320" height="265"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bL72UV7XuFY&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="320" height="265" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bL72UV7XuFY&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>   No. 2: Boise State's Fake Punt   Head Coach Chris Petersen was faced with another tough call in the 4th quarter of the Fiesta Bowl. It was a 4th-and-9 on the Boise 33, and the Broncos put on their armor and took flight.    Gary Patterson already saw a fake punt earlier in the game, but Boise reversed their decision.  This time, they didn’t let up.    Punter Kyle Brutzman connected with tight end Kyle Efaw for a 29-yard pickup in the open field!    The trickery led to Boise’s momentum and the 17-10 Fiesta Bowl thriller between the BCS Busters.     If you find my passion for Christ not tasteful, it's not my problem.  You are not under any obligation to read any of the information.  Many readers skip through slideshows every day, so if you don't like it, you don't have to read it.   "Listen, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.  So be as clever as snakes and as innocent as doves."—Matthew 10:16  (Verse of this piece.) <object width="320" height="265"> <param value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z_Q758WercY&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" name="movie" /> <param value="true" name="allowFullScreen" /> <param value="always" name="allowscriptaccess" /><embed width="320" height="265" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z_Q758WercY&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1"></embed></object>   No. 1: The Saints Come Marching in to Perfection   It’s about time.  The New Orleans Saints had their first Super Bowl visit in team history on Sunday, leaving the four others helpless to fend for themselves, not that it wasn’t ever that way.    The Saints were crowned Super Bowl Champs in the process, as they beat the powerhouse Colts, 31-17.    It was a night focused on the bets of how long the National Anthem would take, how many times Archie Manning and Kim Kardashian would show up on the tele, and the viewing of the highly anticipated Super Bowl ads, that companies and businesses ship out about a $100,000 per second.    In the summer-fall changeover in 2005, Katrina struck New Orleans with devastation.  Some say it was an “act of God.”  But I always tell people that doesn’t exist; there are certain things God doesn’t control.    It’s really about cause and effect.  And on the night of February 7, 2010, Peyton Manning’s costly interception returned back for a touchdown was the perfect example of cause-effect.    Peyton threw it short, Tracy Porter was in the right spot, and there were blockers in front of Porter that led to the touchdown that put the game away.    Drew Brees and company were just the better team.  Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas put up their “A-Game”, the defense was relentless, and the wise decision making by the head coach turned the game over to a Saints’ victory.    Without a doubt, the Colts were a sensational team, but the Saints were the best, and let’s face it—they were the best team all season long.  We’ll never know how Favre would have played if he had made it to the Super Bowl, but case and point—he fell short.    Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints—you needed it!  And now Saints fans can finally back up “WHO DAT!”    We’ll never forget what happened in this game, and Drew Brees and company will always be remembered for being the Savior after Katrina.    I hope you enjoyed this article, because I know I loved writing it!  Don’t be shy; let me know your thoughts! </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>   76.97.188.228

76 7405 The Houston Texans have announced that they have signed head coach Gary Kubiak to a contract extension that runs through the 2012 season. <o:p> </o:p> The Texans went 9-7 in 2009, the first winning record in the teams history. In the four seasons Kubiak has coached the Texans they are 31-33, but are still looking for its first playoff apperance. <o:p> </o:p> Kubiak, 48, took over the Texans head coaching position in January 2006 after the team finished 2-14. His original contract was due to expire after the up coming season. <o:p> </o:p> Texans owner Bob McNair said that he is disappointed that the team missed the playoffs again last year, but showed "a lot of progress" and he wanted to maintain continuity by keeping Kubiak in charge.<o:p></o:p> 76.97.188.228

83 7221    Well first off I'd like to thank Tom Brady for never showing up to this game because Matt Schaub would've never gotten his chance to shine. Schaub backed into the Pro-Bowl game on a technicality due to Tom Brady's off-season make-up appointments and spa treatments.Needless to say I'm not fond of him.    In his first Pro-Bowl affair Matt Schaub started for the AFC All-Stars and came back in 4th quarter to win the game. He threw for 189 yards on 13/17 passing  with no interceptions and two touchdowns which gave him a passer rating of 151.3 and the respect of his NFL peers. It helped to have his Pro-Bowl wideout Andre Johnson caught 3 passes for 71 yards that included a 33 yard touchdown. Denver Pro-Bowl wide receiver,Brandon Marshall was also able to add to Matt Schaub's resume'  hauling in a 23 yard touchdown to take the AFC to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.    For Andre Johnson it was his first Pro-Bowl touchdown and how fitting it was to come from his own quarterback. With a Pro-Bowl MVP under his belt now Matt Schaub has proved that his is one of the elite QBs in this league.Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. 70.250.219.128

71 7220    Texans owner Bob McNair has a multiyear contract in the works for Gary Kubiak that would make him even richer. The deal can be done as soon as next week. Coach Kubiak is in the final year of his 5-year $10 million contract he accepted to become the Houston Texans head coach in 2006. Due to the team's recent success of a 9-7 season his new deal would have him signed atleast through 2013 with the assistant coaches signed for  one year lesser. 109 7175   Continuity seems to be what NFL teams are in search of this offseason, well some but not all.  Kansas City is looking like "Brand New England" with the recent hirings of Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel. Scott Pioli has been General Manager for a year now and he knows just as everyone does that a team is only as good as the staff that coaches it. Weis and Crennel never brought a the teams they coached back prominence but were great coordinators under Bill Belichic and maybe realized that's all they're cut out to be. Who knows,if the Patriots and Chiefs have bad seasons maybe Haley gets fired and Bill steps in.      Mike Sherman, whom you may remember as Green Bay's former head coach was hired as the Texans' offensive coordinator back in 2006 and in a year's time improved the offense from 28th to 14th. Given the talent level we had in Houston then it was an over-achievement to say the least. After 2 seasons under Gary Kubiak, Sherman accepted a head coaching position at Texas A&M which lead to the promotion of then quarterbacks coach Kyle Shanahan.      I believe Kubiak gave Shanahan the job based on the time he spent with Mike Shanahan in Denver and I'm probably right. You that old saying,"It's not what you know its who you know."  Kyle Shanahan was brought in as wide recievers coach then quickly promoted to quarterbacks coach. Shanahan's tenure in Houston as the offensive coordinator resulted in  8-8 and 9-7 seasons and the most predictable play-calling I've ever seen.How much can expect from a coordinator who is the youngest in the league at 28. He left this year for Washington after the hiring of his father, Mike Shanahan as the head coach. This what it might have looked like if Luke Skywalker had joined the darkside. Now In 4 years Kubiak has had 2 different offensive coordinators and this time around "Koob" is sticking some glue on the position. Not to mention former assistant head coach,Alex Gibbs just left for Seattle to team up with New Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.   Kubiak employs a zone-run blocking scheme with made Mike Munchak, offensive line coach of the Titans was a strong candidate before the team denied an interview. I'd like to think having Chris Johnson go for 2000 yards had  something to do with that. Among other names like Bill Musgrave,quarterbacks coach in Atlanta and Chan Gailey now Bills head coach one that stood out was Rick Dennison. At 51,Dennison has about 12 times the experience and knowledge Kyle Shanahan does in his 24 years of coaching and 15 of them at the assistant coach position.     He and Kubiak both spent time together in Denver during the glory days so they're quite familiar with each other. They were teammates for 8 years and colleagues for 11,if that ain't chemistry I don't know what is. I like this hire because Rick Dennison already knows the offense because Kubiak brought it with him to Houston. Don't worry its plenty of bootleg to go around. 480 7001 At this point, no one should be surprised.  With the postseason honors already collected by Houston Texans rookie Brian Cushing, there was hardly a blink of an eye today when he was selected Second Team All-Pro as an outside linebacker.   The honor puts Cushing, the Texans’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC, among the top four outside linebackers in the NFL after just one season as a professional. He was the only rookie selected All-Pro for the 2009 season.   “I’m just beyond happy and honored to be named to an All-Pro team and have the respect of the voters,” Cushing said. “That is more powerful than any dollar can buy. You play to be good and respected and hopefully to be remembered after your playing days are over.   “I couldn’t be more pleased with how my first year was and the start of my NFL career.”   Cushing already was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was selected to represent the AFC at the Pro Bowl on Jan. 31. He was also named NFL Defensive Player of the Month for November.   In Rookie of the Year balloting, Cushing was a runaway winner. He received 39 votes, easily beating out Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who intercepted nine passes this season and earned six votes. Cushing became the second Texans linebacker in four seasons to win the award. His mentor, DeMeco Ryans, who will join him in the Pro Bowl, won the award in 2006.   Cushing also was named AFC Rookie of the Month for October and twice was named Defensive Rookie of the Week.   Cushing, who will turn 23 on Jan. 24, led the AFC in tackles this season with 134, 87 of them primary. He also had five sacks, four interceptions, forced two fumbles and recorded one safety. He played through cracked ribs with a flak jacket the last two games of the season and fought through ankle and knee pain most of the season.   The Texans went 9-7, the first winning record in franchise history, but missed the playoffs despite winning their final four games.   “Brian is a special player,” Ryans said. “I saw when he first stepped on the field that he could be a special player for us. Just to watch him grow week-in and week-out, I’m just so proud of him. He’s like my little brother out there. I’m always out there talking to him about how we can be great as a unit. 1070 6917 Depending on how the coin flip with Atlanta goes Houston will be picking either 19th or 20th in the first round of the 2010 draft. The defense faired well but still needs work and I think that many of the picks will be on that side of the ball.  Cushing was a gift from god and strongside linebacker wont be a need at least for the next 10 years. I look at the roster and see a bad secondary and interior defensive line. Offensively not so bad this group can play with the best of them but now its time to start dominating. I say shore up the offensive line and get Schaub another weapon, a certified weapon,a threat opposite Andre Johnson.   The 2010 schedule looks to be pretty brutal considering they will host the Cowboys, Ravens, Chiefs, Giants and Chargers (No, not the Chiefs, anything but them) and will travel to Denver, Oakland, Philadelphia, Washington and New York to visit the Jets.   Then success in the AFC South divisional games are key as well. In mind both lines,offensive and defensive need to bulk up in they are to improve and build on this year. The Texans have to catch Indianpoils and won't with the players they have in the secondary.2010 holds many battles for the offensive line as they will face teams with an effective pass rush such as Dallas' Demarcus Ware ,G-Men's Tuck and Osi,Indy'sFreeney and Mathis, Denver's Elvis Dumervil just to name a few.With all that said here's my mock draft for the Houston Texans.   1st round-Terrence Cody DT Alabama-He a space eater at 6'5'' 378lbs and will contribute to the run defense immediately.Normally a 3-4 type DT  but should be just as good in a 4-3 scheme.Scouts aren't too fond of his pass rush ability due to his 40-time and that makes him a 2 down player but he will almost command a double team and that should give Mario Williams a little more freedom coming off the edge.At 19 or 20 its fills a need and has great value.   2nd Round-Reshad Jones FS Georgia-At 6'2'' 215lbs he has the ideal size and build to play safety in the pros but he lacks world class speed.Running a 4.4-4.5 in a 40yd dash will do in my eyes given how he plays the game.He reminds me of Bernard Pollard coming out of Purdue.I see him being the ball-hawking  free safety they so desperately need.He's a great wrap-up tackler and a big-hitter but better in coverage than Pollard was.He nasty and aggressive but doesn't over do it.He fills a need and falls in their lap due to shadow casted over him by the big name safeties like Taylor Mays,Earl Thomas,and Eric Berry who are probably 1st rounders.    3rd Round-Joe Mcknight RB USC-Kubiak took Steve Slaton in the 3rd round in the 08' draft and he turned out to be a steal.This year's running back isn't that deep and is filled with mid-round talent.Mcknight is coming off a 1,000yd 8TD season for the Trojans and at 6'0'' 180lbs has all the physical tools and intangibles enough to make guys miss and become a difference maker at the next level.He is also a great pass-catcher coming out the backfield and can line up in the slot.He shared carries with C.J. Gable and Stafon Johnson at USC so I dont see why it wouldn't work with Steve Slaton and Arian Foster.Inserting Mcknight into the Texans backfield rotation would make it one to reckon with.He could also help with special teams.   4th Round-Dezmon Briscoe WR Kansas-He's 6'3'' 200lbs and a big play receiver for the Jayhawks averaging about 110yds a game.Wears #80 like Andre Johnson does just not as fast but fast enough but I look at like Sidney Rice.Give him a couple years to develop and he'll be "mossin" smaller defenders on the regular.Briscoe runs good routes and attacks the ball at its highest point,wins most if not all jump ball situations,and is a physical wideout.Texans need him playing opposite of Andre Johnson not Kevin Walter.   5th Round-Brandon Carter G Texas Tech-Stands 6'7'' 334lbs and plays as mean as he looks.He is the only Red Raider that wears face paint so he isnt hard to spot.He's not an All-American 2 years consecutively for nothing.The guy lines up and knocks people out.   5th Round(from San Diego)-Adam Ulatoski T Texas-He is 6'7'' and 305lbs of Longhorn.Smart player with good size and strength.He was also well coached under Mack Brown.   6th Round-Hunter Lawerence K Texas-Clutch collegiate kicker that can provide Kris Brown some competiton if not take his spot.   7th Round-Best punter available-Matt Turk has got to retire at some point.   Lineups should look a little something like this   QB-Matt Schaub   RB-Steve Slaton,Arian Foster,Joe Mcknight   LT-Duane Brown   LG-Chester Pitts   C-Antoine Caldwell   RG-Brandon Carter   RT-Eric Winston   TE-Owen Daniels   WR-Andre Johsnon,Dezmon Briscoe   RE-Mario WIlliams   DT-Amobe Okoye,Terrence Cody   LE-Antonio Smith   WLB-Zac Diles   MLB-Demeco Ryans   SLB-Brian Cushing   CB-Dunta Robinson,Glover Quin   FS-Reshad Jones   SS-Bernard Pollard 76.97.188.228

441 6903 The Houston Texans finished 9-7 this year and seem to have gotten the "8-8 monkey" off their backs but could easily be back there next year if they don't come out of this upcoming draft as winners.Kubiak wants an extension and should in my opinion coach the remaining year on his contract to prove he can have Texans statisically among the elite teams in the league and consistently in playoff contention. In last year's draft Houston used the 15th overall pick to select the Defensive Rookie of Year in USC's Brian Cushing which I thought was the best 1st round selection by Houston since Mario Williams. In the 2nd round they took Cincinnati's Connor Barwin who I thought of as the hybid player who can play DE or LB. They looked at him like they looked at Jason Babin(Bust!!!). I personally had my fingers crossed for Oklahoma's Phil Loadholt or Utah's 6'3'' cornerback product, Sean Smith but Kubiak doesn't think about building an great offensive line unit let alone knows when to take an offensive lineman. Duane Brown was a reach to say the least.I somewhat applauded the selection of Alabama's Guard/Center Antoine Caldwell because the O-line has needed attention since the team was born but Georgia Tech's DE Michael Johnson was still on the board and he has much more upside than the overpaid Antonio Smith.   All that aside the 4th round is where I began to scratch my head. I'm thinking what steal Florida wideout Louis Murphy would be but I hear Glover Quin's named called. Who?   We know we need a WR opposite of Andre Johnson and we had a chance to take him but didn't. The Texans had another pick in the 4th round and I'm sitting on the couch expecting Kubiak to have LSU Guard, Herman Johnson's name called but no its a Tight End from N.C. State,Anthony Hill. Well considering Mark Bruener's retirement I saw the logic in that pick.   The 5th comes around and I just know they'll take Duke Robinson who played alongside Phil Loadholt at Oklahoma but the 152nd overall pick was used on...Another Tight End? That makes 4 at the position. I dont think anyone understood that one. Macho Harris would've made sense at that spot given the cornerback situation. Brice McCain in the 6th round was OK, but he's 5'9'' and I don't see him defending any routes where size matters.   Troy Nolan,Safety out of Arizona State was taken in the 7th round to end their draft. Andre Johnson will be a free agent and is arguably the best WR in the league and sooner or later is going leave for a contending team where he see's his contributions result in a championship if Houston doesn't get it together. Dunta Robinson proved that he should be paid nickleback money but wants the franchise tag this time around after complaining about it last year. I foresee another short term deal for him maybe a two-year deal. Dunta's poor play has made Bernard Pollard much richer. 13 Texans will be free agents come March 1, 2010 and this is what I think what should happen.They are as follows:   QB Rex Grossman (He wasn't good as a starter in Chicago and I'm not too fond of how he holds the clipboard on the sideline either.Let him go!!)                 Running Backs Chris Brown and Ryan Moats(Personally I rather see Chris Brown,the entertainer run it than this guy. Moats will be a journeyman RB, we can do without him. Besides Arian Foster and Jeremiah Johnson could fill in immediately)   WR Kevin Walter(He may want to test the waters but I think he gets resigned. He should be in the slot not the outside. No one is scared of Walter due to his speed. He is rarely beating coverage so you got him running step for step with a corner and Andre double-covered,Schaub gets sacked or throws a bad one. Jacoby has stepped up enough to take his spot full-time. Let him go!!)   TE Owen Daniels(Cut the check for Owen!! The Texans offense wasn't the same without him. Pay him Rick!!)   OL Chester Pitts,Mike Brisel,Rashad Butler(Butler is expendable I hardly see him on the field. Pitts however is a veteran and has started from quite some time. Injury bug bit hime this year and at the age of 30 makes him a cheap keep. Now he'll have to become part of the rotation. As far as Brisel goes I'm tired of seeing him get beat.Let him go!!)   DL Deljuan Robinson and Tim Bulman(Let them go!!)   LBs Demeco Ryans and Chaun Thompson(Pay him Rick!! Demeco and fellow DROY Brian Cushing are going to be fun to watch for years to come. Thompson is another cheap keep for depth purposes.)   CB Dunta Robinson(No tag for you sir,matter of fact I hope Rick Smith kept the receipt on you. Maybe they throw him a two year deal and trade him on draft for a pick. Would love to see him go but with Glover Quin being the only bright spot at the position we at least have to sign him and only because he's our vet corner. It's sad,your the number one CB and you get targeted by the opposing QB every week. Cheap keep for now)   S Bernard Pollard and Nick Ferguson(Pay him Rick!! Pollard was the lone standout in the secondary this year. I liked him coming out of Purdue because he's a good tackler and has improved his coverage skills since his tenure in KC. Thanks alot KC!! He has proven to be a piece to puzzle that is the secondary. Ferguson at 34 can barely cover his nose when he sneezes let alone a NFL WR. Let him go!!)   ST Matt Turk and Kris Brown(Turk gives us good field position and has been quite reliable to say the least and at 39 he's a cheap keep if he doesn't retire. 2009 just wasn't a good year for anybody named Chris Brown even if you spell it with a K. Starting to look like Mike Vanderjagt when his time was up in Indy but he's signed through 2014. He's an original Texan but at 32,  its probably time to get a young leg in there atleast for the spirit of competition.   Letting go 9 of the 14 free agents should free up some cap space therefore allowing the Texans to make some moves in the market. If it was up to me we'd be down 1 QB,1 WR,1 T,1 C,1 DT,and 1 FS   My theory on attacking free agency is replace Grossman with Jake Delhomme. After all I don't see Carolina bringing him back based on Matt Moore coming on late in the season. He's a vet and I don't see why he can't back up Matt Schaub and he shouldn't be expensive at all.   There's nothing sexy about this year's WR class at all. Most of the guys will be re-signed for the part and there's not much talent. There's an assortment of guards and tackles but most of them will be retained by their teams. Richard Seymour will most likely hit the market, maybe the Texans can compete for his service, but outside of him, free agency really has nothing to offer expect players who provide depth in my opinion.   76.97.188.228

216 6855 The accolades continue to roll in for Brian Cushing.  Already selected to represent the AFC at the Pro Bowl on Jan. 31, the Houston Texans tackling machine has been named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.   Cushing, a linebacker picked in the first round (15th overall) by the Texans in the 2009 draft, was a runaway winner in balloting by a nationwide group of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Cushing received 39 votes, easily beating Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who intercepted nine passes this season and earned six votes. Cushing became the second Texans linebacker in four seasons to win the award. His mentor, DeMeco Ryans, who will join him in the Pro Bowl, won the award in 2006.   “I’m just a much smarter football player,” Cushing said. “I’m much more advanced than I was this time last year and it was just a good way to start out a career. I’m happy about how everything turned out this year. Of course the playoffs would have been nice, but now we know what we have to do for next season.”   Cushing was named AFC Rookie of the Month for October and twice was named Defensive Rookie of the Week.   Cushing, only 22, led the AFC in tackles this season with 133 tackles, 86 of them primary. The Texans went 9-7, the first winning record in franchise history. Cushing also had five sacks, four interceptions, forced two fumbles and recorded one safety. 212 6811 I’m beyond excited to be chosen to play in the Pro Bowl because I know what an honor it is. When I got the call I just couldn’t believe it. Just the fact that so many players want to go and never get the chance, it’s just wild. Coach Kubiak called and told me and I was just stunned.<o:p></o:p>  My parents were with me so the first person I called was DeMeco. He’s going too so we were both excited, and we’ll celebrate closer to Jan. 31 down in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Miami</st1:place></st1:city>. It’s such an honor, but we have a huge game to get ready for on Sunday, we understand the importance and we know we have to take care of business first. We’ll rejoice after the season.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We need to win and we need the Jets and either <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Denver</st1:place></st1:city> or Baltimore or both to lose. When I look back at some of the games that we could have won, if we had won just one we’d be in good shape, and if we had won two of them we’d already be in the playoffs. It’s crazy but hindsight is 20-20 and we know we put ourselves in this position. But we also know we are a playoff-caliber team and that’s what’s so frustrating. We know how good we are, and I think if we get into the playoffs we can definitely do some damage.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> You just have to move forward and hope for the best.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I don’t think the Patriots are just going to lay down. Everyone knows how competitive that organization is with Coach Belichick and Brady. You never know what’s going to happen, but no matter which 11 they put out on the field, we have to prepare to play all out and take care of our business.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I’m not preparing for anything in the future except to play on Sunday and win on Sunday.
